![]() ![]() Land Rover estimates the PHEV powertrain will motivate the Range Rover Sport to 60 mph in 4.7 seconds. A plug-in-hybrid P5500e setup is exclusive to the fancy Autobiography trim and pairs an electric motor to the inline-six for a combined 542 horsepower. Our test vehicle delivered peerless ride quality, though, which was appreciated over the broken tarmac near our Michigan headquarters. When we tested the P360 SE, it needed only 5.7 seconds to hit 60 mph but felt more sluggish than that around town. The entry-level engine is a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six that employs a 48-volt hybrid system and makes 355 horsepower in the P360 SE and 395 horsepower in the P400 SE Dynamic. Its extra horsepower will undoubtedly give it a bit of a boost both around town and on the highway, and it offers a litany of luxury and convenience features without requiring a six-figure bill. Cabin cubbies are ample, especially in the front row.We think the more powerful P400 Dynamic SE is the trim to go with. The Range Rover Sport Supercharged has less cargo space than many competitors, but it still offers enough storage for most everyday usage. The Autobiography model we tested, billed as a top-of-the-line, super-luxe interior treatment, had attractive aluminum trim and plenty of nice details, but it failed to feel significantly more expensive or comfortable than the interior of any other Land Rover we’ve driven. The Range Rover Sport Supercharged comes standard with sumptuous leather interior trimmings, not to mention optional 20-way adjustable front seats with massage function, and four-zone automatic climate control. The Range Rover Sport Supercharged has an attractive, well-equipped cabin, but the interior fittings don’t feel any more special than those found in regular Range Rovers. The Range Rover Sport Supercharged doesn’t hide its SUV roots quite as well as some competitors, but it is still rapid and unusually nimble for an SUV. Paired exclusively with an eight-speed automatic and all-wheel drive, this setup is quick to blast past legal speed limits. Making 510 horsepower in “regular” Supercharged models and 550 hp in the tuned-up SVR trim, the supercharged V-8 that powers these models is smooth, guttural, and astoundingly fast. It’s a beast-but still not the fastest of its competitors. The supercharged 5.0-liter V-8 engine under the hood is what separates Supercharged and SVR models from more run-of-the-mill Range Rovers. Still, the Land Rover name needs no introduction, and the Sport Supercharged is a status symbol recognizable by its iconic silhouette alone. ![]() When driven hard, some stray body motions keep the Sport Supercharged from equaling the efforts of the excellent BMW X5 M, Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT, or Porsche Cayenne Turbo. Separated from the top-trim Range Rover Sport by a supercharged V-8 engine, the Range Rover Sport Supercharged and SVR variants hold their own in a narrow segment of sport-tuned, high-performance SUVs. ![]()
